Motorcycle Defects and Recalls

A defective motorcycle or a faulty motorcycle part can cause accidents, or turn a minor collision into a catastrophic one. For example, defective brakes can cause an accident, or turn a fender-bender such as a rear-end collision into a major motorcycle accident that causes severe personal injuries or even fatalities. A defective helmet that fails on impact can leave you with a debilitating brain injury when you should have suffered only bruises.

If you believe that your motorcycle has a defect, you can report it to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the federal agency responsible for issuing recalls and investigating potential defects. If they discover that the part was indeed defective, they will issue a recall and you will have helped spare other bikers from dangerous motorcycle accidents. You should also consult the advice of our Michigan motorcycle accident attorneys who can help you move forward with your accident claim.

It is a motorcycle manufacturer’s responsibility to try and alert owners of recalled vehicles or motorcycle parts. A manufacturer should have your records on hand from your Michigan vehicle registration information. They may also try to notify owners through the purchaser of a recalled product.

If you were injured in a motorcycle accident that you suspect was caused by a defective part, please contact the Michigan motorcycle accident attorneys at Jay Trucks & Associates, PC. We provide free consultations to clients in Flint, Saginaw and Traverse City, Michigan.
